I used to be keen on all sports but at 34 I had found myself sitting at home getting older (and bigger) desperately needing to get fit. I needed something that the gym really wasn’t offering me. I’ve now lost weight, got really fit and I’ve cancelled my expensive Gym Membership.
How did I do it? I joined the ‘New You’ intermediate level boot camp run by the Fresh Air Gym. Boot camp for me is two things, 1. a social event and 2. a really good workout. It’s great to workout with some good people that really motivate you to work hard. Each session is different so you don't know what to expect. All I know is it’s gonna be tough!! And all this for only a fiver, definite value for money.
The sessions focus on improving fitness, strength & power. A wide variety of fitness methods are used but my personal favourites are powerbags, ropes and agility drills. I have a better all round fitness than I had aged 20! You do have to work hard. As varied as it is one thing I can reply on is that it will be tough, very tough. But each session I get stronger and quicker and that’s motivating. There is a competitive element amongst some of my class mates. It’s hard not to compete when you have the personal trainer aspect, combined with the motivation of others in a similar situation. You don’t have to be a fitness nut for it to work for you. It’s gradual, you keep getting better and at the end, everyone is still smiling.......That’s a good sign.......”
